A fan art of the character Lyn from the "Fire Emblem" games. This drawing, specifically, is based on the "Choose Your Legend" edition of the character from the mobile game "Fire Emblem Heroes".
I was disappointed with the official illustration of this variant of Lyn, so I decided to draw my own version of it. Although because I took the chance to give her Askr designs as well, this became more of an Askr variant; Askr being the country the mobile game's story is set in.
Overall I'm happy with the results. But the time I spent deciding whether the drawing was complete or not made it feel less rewarding.
It's embarrassing how long this took before I decided I was done. Besides the usual procrastination, I was really hesitating over my colouring. I spent more time looking at the drawing itself than colouring it. At least it felt that way .
Doing more is easier than doing less when you are already used it.
Taking to heart what I realized in my last drawing, I made sure I didn't over apply the shadow and light colours. At first I thought it would be straight forward to simply omit some colouring. But actually making the decisions to do so were more ambiguous than I expected. Is this enough light? Is that too much shadow? Should I colour here? Would this be unnecessary? These questions come up one after another. The longer I stayed on one part the less confidence I have in my decisions.
ln the end, although I don't think I was able to make a big difference this time, I was able to correct my uses of colour values. That's what matters most.
So far so good.
For my next "lesson" drawing, I think I should have a specific source of light, maybe a smaller one, to change up how the character is lit.
