Fan Art: Arash - Fate/Grand Order

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

After becoming enlightened to the power of Arash in Fate/Grand Order (FGO), I felt like I had to draw a fan art of him.

This was a challenge for me since I've yet to draw effects in my drawings, so I was quite nervous going into the drawing. I could have done something else, but it's Arash, so it just felt right to draw him using his Noble Phantasm, "Stella".

Seeing as how there are so many interpretations of Stella out there, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of drawing the moment he releases his arrow, I drew the moment he draws his arrow; capturing the power of the shot during it's preparation, as opposed to it's recoil.

Hopefully I did a good enough job getting the idea across.

Fan Art: Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers - Viera Gunbreaker

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

A fan art to celebrate the release of the "Shadowbringers" expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.

I planned for this to be posted before the official release of the expansion, on July 2nd, but things didn't really go as planned. My motivation to finish this drawing deflated a bit as a result, so progress slowed down, but it's done now.

Although there are things I'm not as happy with, I think the overall idea and execution stands on it's own. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make the oriental cross cowboy style work, but it turned out more natural than expected. I think I can lean in even more on both aspects next time.

But most importantly there is someone I have to thank for this drawing. Sadly I don't remember who it was. I really should have written it down, or saved it somewhere. I tried to find the specific post again, but it's not as easy as I thought it'd be. Regardless, thanks that post on reddit I was not only given 1000+ views on this blog, but it also made me realize that my Viera Gunblader* fan art became a prediction of sorts; I laughed in disbelief quite hard. I wouldn't have done another FFXIV fan art without this post. If some how the person who posted that post sees this:

Thanks!

Artwork: Reminiscence

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

A quick illustration to give myself a break from my other drawing. Ironically it still took longer than I wanted it to.

I'm still really satisfied with how this turned out. Even though this took longer than I expected, this is still the quickest drawing I've done with this level of completion. This is a great confidence boost for me, as it shows that I'm getting closer to my goal of drawing faster.

Artwork: Another Moment's Appreciation

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

While looking through my old drawings, thinking about what to draw next, I came across the drawing I named "A Moment's Appreciation". At first it didn't really catch my eyes, or spark any inspirations, but then I remembered that this was one of the few drawings, if not the only one, that I drew themed after myself.

As I thought about it some more, I felt like it was the right time to revisit this idea. It was a great opportunity to compare and see the differences between the me, now, and the me, then.

The result is the above drawing. Obviously I'm better now then I was before... right?

The main references I've used for this drawing will be at the end of this post.

Artwork: Swordsman Toa

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

I finished this in late January, but because I was really late with starting the Chinese New Year drawing I decided to hold on to this post until after Chinese New Year.

For this drawing my main objective was to include more perspective in my drawings. I didn't want start with anything too fancy yet, just something simple and effective. My other objective was to continue with more character design. I'm quite happy about the colours and the details on the clothing, but I would want to change the design of the collar next time; it just doesn't feel as cohesive as I wanted it to be.

As I finished the drawing I found my composition lacking impact, so I decided to change up my framing a bit. The one I prefer is the top one, while the bottom one is the original composition. I felt shifting the emphasis more on to the sword made more sense for the drawing and adds more impact.

What do you think?

A couple days late, but better late than never! Honestly not the best new year start for me, but it is just the beginning. There is still the rest of the year to look forward to!

With that out of the way.
