Artwork: Otherworld Outing

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

A casual outing in another world. Well I guess, a parallel world, may be more accurate?

It started out as an usual modern setting, but I felt like shaking things up just a bit. If I were to point to something I'm really proud of this time, it'd have to be the drink. It was quite the brain teaser to figure out how to deal with multiple transparencies and their interactions.

I can't speak about accuracy, but it's convincing; and that is what matters most.

Artwork: Enchanting Spearman

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

This is my first character drawing in a while. Having spent time on other things and reflecting on my skills and approach to drawing, I was able to embrace new options. This is arguably my first serious attempt at cel-shading, especially since developing as an artist in recent years, as well as my first time using Krita.

There was much I had to get use to, but overall I was impressed with the results. I have much to learn with cel-shading, and I look forward to improving.

Fan Art: Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers - Viera Gunbreaker

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

A fan art to celebrate the release of the "Shadowbringers" expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.

I planned for this to be posted before the official release of the expansion, on July 2nd, but things didn't really go as planned. My motivation to finish this drawing deflated a bit as a result, so progress slowed down, but it's done now.

Although there are things I'm not as happy with, I think the overall idea and execution stands on it's own. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make the oriental cross cowboy style work, but it turned out more natural than expected. I think I can lean in even more on both aspects next time.

But most importantly there is someone I have to thank for this drawing. Sadly I don't remember who it was. I really should have written it down, or saved it somewhere. I tried to find the specific post again, but it's not as easy as I thought it'd be. Regardless, thanks that post on reddit I was not only given 1000+ views on this blog, but it also made me realize that my Viera Gunblader* fan art became a prediction of sorts; I laughed in disbelief quite hard. I wouldn't have done another FFXIV fan art without this post. If some how the person who posted that post sees this:

Thanks!

Artwork: Swordsman Toa

Drawn By: WrittenDusk

I finished this in late January, but because I was really late with starting the Chinese New Year drawing I decided to hold on to this post until after Chinese New Year.

For this drawing my main objective was to include more perspective in my drawings. I didn't want start with anything too fancy yet, just something simple and effective. My other objective was to continue with more character design. I'm quite happy about the colours and the details on the clothing, but I would want to change the design of the collar next time; it just doesn't feel as cohesive as I wanted it to be.

As I finished the drawing I found my composition lacking impact, so I decided to change up my framing a bit. The one I prefer is the top one, while the bottom one is the original composition. I felt shifting the emphasis more on to the sword made more sense for the drawing and adds more impact.

What do you think?

Character Illustrations: Death's Ambassador - Character Set 3

Drawn By: WrittenDusk
Game: Death's Ambassador
Concept and Development By: MRHAPPYFACEMAN

This is the last of the characters I am drawing for MRHAPPYFACEMAN. Naming this as a set is not very appropriate, but consistency is important.

There was at least one more character planned, but because there is something else I want to work on I ended my help early. MRHAPPYFACEMAN was very good about this.

If my participation in this project has interested you in their development, in any way, visit their Twitter for continued updates. For those who are interested in helping out with the development visit their recruitment page on RPG Maker Forum

This project really tested my skills as an artist in terms of design, technique, consistency, speed, and endurance. While as a person it helped me gain more experience with working with others. A truly valuable experience.

Character Illustrations: Death's Ambassador - Character Set 2

Drawn By: WrittenDusk
Game: Death's Ambassador (Previously Death's Advocate) (In Development)
Concept and Development By: MRHAPPYFACEMAN

A new post on more characters from "Death's Advocate", or rather "Death's Ambassador" now. Updates to the name will be mentioned as it changes through development.

The team is working hard at making this game, so if you are interested in their development and want to know more about the game visit their Twitter. For those who are interested in helping out with the development visit their recruitment page on RPG Maker Forum.

Among the three characters, the last two took the most effort; one of them especially took a lot of work. It's part of the reason why it took me so long to post this. But both these characters really made me understand the importance of an aspect of drawing/illustration that is easily ignored.

Character Illustrations: Death's Advocate - Daughters

Drawn By: WrittenDusk
Game: Death's Advocate (In Development)
Concept and Development By: MRHAPPYFACEMAN

I've been working on these illustrations for quite awhile now, wanting to post this up only after all four of them are finished.

These character illustrations are for a game, being developed in RPG Maker, called Death's Advocate. In this horror/thriller you will be thrown into unknown worlds as a proxy to assist Death in his fight against demons. The four characters that I have drawn are your daughters, and they will play significant roles within the game. All this is done in collaboration with, and for, MRHAPPYFACEMAN; a user of RPG Maker Forums. I'll have links to the RPG Maker website and their forums below.

I'll still be helping out with this game for the time being, so I'll give more updates as I post more illustrations and/or drawings of this game.

Series Concept: Concept Community

Drawn and Created by: WrittenDusk

A group of characters based off of concepts of human ideas and aspects. These are a few of all the characters I have in mind at the moment.

The main aim is really to create a batch of merchandise capable character designs and ideas. I just suddenly wanted to create a website dedicated to and decorated by my own cool characters, and sell them on t-shirts, cups, hats, etc.

The style is inspired, most recently, by the manga "Ice Revolution" or "I-Revo"; story by Tsutsumi Aya and art by Takemura Youhei. I'm pretty sure there has been other artists that I've seen using a similar style for their chibis; "Katekyō Hitman Reborn!" by Akira Amano, is another.

The theme is oddly inspired by the song "7 Years" by Lukas Graham. This is odd because of my habit of preferring east asian entertainment and avoidance of western entertainment; minus animated films, haha. It was purely by chance that I heard it on the car radio.

I feel like this has potential. (^_^)

Also watermark debut!

Pencil Sketches: Chibi Styles

Searching for job openings online I found a game company that was requesting for an artist to draw Chibis for their games. But do to the lack of information I was very suspicious of their requests. While still thinking I drew some Chibi's in preparation to apply.

Luckly asking a friend for more advice I decided not to apply and now I got more styles of Chibi in my portfolio. (^_^) v

I personally like the 2 1/2 head style best.

Also I have opened up a deviant art account a couple weeks ago. If any are interested please have a look. At the moment though they are just repeats of the more completed works here, so I guess there isn't too much point to go there, haha.

Pencil Sketch: Mascot

By: WrittenDusk

Fun sketches of mascot like characters. My cousin also took part in a few of the drawings and concepts.
